Whew! It's been a crazy week, but let me start a bit farther back.
October 22nd, was our fifth anniversary! It's amazing how fast time flies! The "theme" for fifth year gifts is wood, so we decided we were going to buy a crib for our anniversary. I did a lot of research and we finally just ordered it last night. I am so happy with the one we decided on; I love it! We will get it in 2-3 weeks.
I also ordered a bunch of adoption children's books and received them in the mail. It's sad that you can't just go to Boarder's and buy them (they only had one there), but I found some really great ones on Amazon and spent an afternoon reading them. They are such cute stories!
So now on to the details of the home visit. As many of you know (from facebook) I was stressing out about the visit. Not that I was worried about it going well, I just wanted to make sure I had enough time to get everything done and get things the way I wanted them. Those of you who know me well, know that I have SLIGHT OCD tendancies ;) so, I wanted to make sure that everything was perfectly perfect.
Right before they came, I folded a load of laundry and shoved the basket into our closet and closed the door, obviously thinking they weren't going to need to look in the closet. So we were showing them our room and one of the social workers asked what was behind the closed door. We said "oh that's just our closet." Sure enough, she wanted to look inside. It was just kind of funny, and she teased me for not having EVERYTHING perfect. :)
So we showed them around our entire house and yard, and then they interviewed Ryan and I separately. They just asked us some questions about each other, and it was pretty painless. It was funny however, one of the questions they asked me was what I thought of the process thus far. I said that I was kind of surprised at how long it was actually taking. I hadn't expected that. They both were surprised that I felt that way because they were just saying how fast we were moving. They told us of another couple that are a year and a half into the process and don't even have their autobiographies done yet. I guess we are doing well!
After they left I was so excited to sit on the couch and relax for an hour before I had to go to work! But less than a half hour after they left, one of our social workers called. She asked if it would be possible for us to get our profile written by Thursday (it was Tuesday afternoon). She said they have a birth mother in North Dakota who is looking for a couple with many of the qualities we have. I was so shocked, I didn't even think to ask any questions, I just said yes and hung up.
The next day I emailed our social worker and asked for some more information on the girl. The information that we do have is very limited. She is a student in North Dakota, but a resident of MN. She is looking for a young Catholic couple with no kids. And she is due January 4th.
So much for relaxing! I started freaking out, but with excitement this time :) We worked really hard and got our profile done and turned in Thursday morning. It turned out so well! It was hard to fit all the information into 10 pages that we wanted her to know, if this will be the determining factor for her to decide to meet with us or not. But I'm confident that we did!
Now we wait.... again. I'm not sure when the agency is meeting with her, so I don't know when we will hear something. They are taking our profile along with "several" others to show the birth mother. So we'll see... keeping fingers crossed and saying lots of prayers!
